A Special Note to Educators: Project Girl facilitators can bring their curriculum and theme based exploratory art experiences into school classrooms. Through the use of an introductory video, group discussion, role playing, and peer to peer presentation, girls and boys learn to critically examine and de construct their contemporary media based culture. As students heighten their awareness and become proficient at naming pervasive marketing themes the harmful effects of contemporary media messages come sharply into focus. An engaging art experience offers students the opportunity for integrated learning, critical reflection, and creative expression. In School Workshops provide a bridge between classroom and community that empowers adolescent students to have greater control over the influence media messages have over their lives supporting their development into confident, fulfilled and productive adults. Participating students have the option of submitting their creative works to become part of the traveling Commercial Land Art Exhibition which features “girl/student art” along with works created by professional artists.
